Equipment Evacuation Services

It’s all well and good to have your backed up data in hand, but it will only help you if you have a computer to run it on. GCITS offers a unique service; in the event of an impending hurricane or other natural disaster, we will actually evacuate your computer(s) to a climate controlled facility near Atlanta, Georgia, until the danger is past.

Here's how it works:

In the event that the Mississippi Gulf Coast is threatened by a hurricane or other natural disaster, GCITS will notify all pre-registered businesses and users of the Equipment Evacuation schedule (that is, when GCITS will begin accepting computers for packing, and when GCITS will stop accepting computers for packing. Computers and other equipment must be delivered by the customer to the loading area behind the GCITS Shop at 603 Highway 90, Suite 5, Bay Saint Louis, MS 39520). Multiple computers may, at GCITS' discretion, be picked up from your site by GCITS for a fee, depending on availability, scheduling, and volume.

Customers who have not pre-registered will be accommodated on a first-come first-serve basis after all pre-registered systems and equipment are loaded.

At the deadline, estimated 2 or 3 days prior to the expected disaster, GCITS' transport vehicles will seal the transport doors and begin transport to Atlanta. Should the hurricane not actually touch the Mississippi Gulf Coast, our transport vehicles will simply turn around and come back. In the event of damage, the systems will be stored until you are ready to have them back.

The cost for this service is $75 round trip (sorry, it’s the same price if the trucks only go halfway to Atlanta and return because the disaster was averted) and $45/month storage fee per computer* (storage fees are in whole months only, therefore 35 days = 2 months). To put that cost in perspective for you, that's one round trip ($75) and nine months storage (9 x $45 = $405) with enough left over to eat a fine fine lunch at Rickey's, plus tip ($20), for the cost of the average insurance deductible ($500).

*Monitors, printers, keyboards, mice, scanners, or other peripherals are not, for the purposes of this Service, considered part of the computer. Evacuation of these items can be arranged as individual pieces of equipment.
