Hard Drive Problems
Hard Drive problems manifest themselves in a number of different ways, and none of them are good. You may notice that when you do a file transfer that the "Time Left" numbers go up periodically instead of down. You may notice strange grinding, tapping, or knocking noises coming from your computer. Your data may suddenly become corrupt. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or others that make you believe that your hard drive is failing, please stop using the computer at once and bring it into the shop for a hard drive replacement. If you can get it to us in time, we can attempt to save your data. If the hard drive is damaged to the point that it will no longer spin, it will have to be sent out for a rebuild and data extraction (usually costing $1000 or more). The best protection from hard drive failure is to come by for a hard drive imaging, and do your backups frequently and well. Backups are important in a home environment, and critical in a business environment. Hard drive imaging allows us to replace your hard drive easily, cheaply, and without hassles in the event of a failure; and the process costs far less than the software for you to do it yourself.
