Custom Rack and Wiring

The Data-Center Rack shown below belongs to one of our Georgia customers, in fact the largest provider of Air Conditioning and Plumbing Services in the Atlanta area. Typically, wiring and equipment racks are ugly affairs, more utilitarian than decorative. In this particular case, the customer requested something "showroom" he could point out to visiting customers as they were touring the pre-fab workshops, the administrative building, and the CAD facilities. We built the rack out of black powder-coated, heavy duty aluminum angle framing, trimmed it with high-gloss polished aluminum angle framing, and enclosed it in "Limo-Dark" tinted Plexiglas. Unfortunately, it was difficult to get back far enough to show the actual rack from the hallway outside; in fact, it looks kind of like a really dark screen door. Funny story - we requested red Zip-Ties from our then-supplier and received purple ones instead. We only had a small maintenance window to take down the old rack, perform a server upgrade, assemble and put up the new rack, run all new cabling, then test the entire network and server (less than eight hours). The customer's Office Manager (whose baby this entire project happened to be) was appalled that we intended to put up purple Zip-ties and replace them later with red ones, but agreed when he realized that we may never be able to snatch an eight hour maintenance window again for several months. The next day when the red Zip-Ties arrived, he wouldn't let us change the way the rack looked.
